The Prettiest Bohemian Bride You'll Ever See

07.10.2014  |  Jules Young of Datura Photo, Utah wedding photographer

Bohemian weddings are huge right now. Free-flowing and simple with a touch of fashion flare.

I got the chance to photograph Lexie Barrus, a gorgeous model in Utah, who rocked the look perfectly. This girl has one of the coolest looks I've ever seen. I have this fear she'll get over-booked and I won't get to photograph her again. No joke!

Her dress was super cool too. The sleeves had 3 variations she could choose from at any time. (You can find this and similar dresses at Bridal Closet in Draper, UT.)

Bohemian goddess or what?!

Lexie On Love . . .

Lexie's perfect love song: "Baby", by Ariel's Pink Haunted Graffiti.

Lexie's dream wedding: "I would love to be married in a mountain meadow at sunset. I saw this once when I was camping and have dreamed of it ever since."

"I loved the area we were in at Noah's. The room was both outdoors and indoors and it was laid out beautifully. I also really loved working with Jules. I have never modeled before this shoot and she made me feel comfortable and happy to be there. I wanted to eat the food on display the whole time we were shooting, it looked soooo good and it was set up nicely. But I also wouldn't have wanted to ruin the gorgeous dress I was allowed to wear."

. . . For brides that don't want their wedding to be like every other wedding they've seen.

I feel so lucky to have gotten to work with Lexie! She has that edgyness to her look, but can pull off soft and delicate at the same time. Whaaaat? And most importantly, she's just cool.

More of Lexie and the other amazing models I worked with on this wedding shoot coming SOON.

"Too Fat for the Runway"

Me: "Why haven't you been hired by a top agency yet?!"
Stevie: "I'm too fat for the runway."
Me: "Are you KIDDING me?!?!?!"
Stevie: "I don't fit the sample sizes in New York for the runway"

f*ck you America!

Luckily, Stevie is a badass and a dork at heart (in the best way) and is ok with not modeling on the runway. She'd rather eat and live a healthy life while modeling locally. Mad props to Stevie, still a big F-you to America.

Who's ready for a law in the U.S. that requires a healthy weight, free therapy for models with disordered eating, and required health tests to make sure their bodies are functioning the way they should? (Me!) Underweight bodies have numerous health risks, and health testing could ensure weight/health correlations are accurate. Many underweight people use tricks to weigh more on the scale than they really do, and random health tests (much like a "pop quiz" to make sure individuals couldn't rig the outcome/results) would keep models healthier, exemplify better health and well-being to their fans/our society, and show that we, as a nation and people, care about these individuals and will not allow them to suffer for their profession.

Mad props to Stevie, who is anti-starving herself to fit the NYC runway model expectation.

We did an editorial shoot together, along with makeup artist Makayla Plock, to create some edgy fashion photos.

Enjoy and let me know what you think about modeling standards in the U.S.

High-fashion usually means runway ready, couture, avant-garde, designer labels.... but in this case, I used my resources. Her look inspired me to pull clothing from my own closet. One thing I love about bodies is that we can be 100% uniquely built but fit into the same clothing as someone with an entirely different body. I'm 5'2" and have huge thigh and calf muscles (apparently I'll out-live small legged people, muscular thighs are linked to a longer life.... sweet!) but Stevie, who is 5'9" with a long & lean build, fit into my clothing perfectly. Way cool, because her look was so fitting for the color schemes and fit of the clothing.

If you or someone you know is interested in a photo session, contact me with details and I'll get back to you within 24 (business) hours.
